Why awarding a prize for German IT-security?

Germany is worldwide renown for its competence in the area of security in IT-technology. Research institutes and companies play a worldwide leading role in various areas.
Over the past 20 years, the founder of the Horst Görtz Foundation, Dr.-Ing. E. h. Horst Görtz himself has been actively contributing to the development of IT-Security in Germany. In the last couple of years, he has also been supporting the area by promoting endowed professorships, doctorates, and events.

By awarding a prize for German IT-Security, the foundation intends to reinforce and to promote the position of IT-Security “Made in Germany”. In doing so the foundation also aims at strengthening the innovative power of Germany’s economy.
